Summer Session and Academic Year

Summer Session

The Upward Bound program’s summer session offers a six-week summer instructional component designed to simulate a college-going experience through daily coursework, cultural enrichment and campus residency. The summer session takes place between June to August. Students will be engaged in daily course work, recreation, fitness, sport, workshops, enrichment, tutoring, advising and guidance, and dormitory living. Coursework will include instruction in math, English, science, foreign language, test preparation from Monday through Thursday. Curriculum testing, cultural enrichment activities or college tours will take place on Fridays. The summer session also serves as a time to transition graduates of the Upward Bound program to college through our Bridge component that will provide them with college level courses, college transition services and activities.

Academic Year

During the nine-month academic year, the Upward Bound program offers tutorial support throughout the week and a Saturday Academy with our instructors and tutors. Saturday Academy consists of academic classes, tutoring, advising and guidance services, workshops, and enrichment activities. The guidance and advising sessions are critical in that they help to establish trusting relationships between students and staff.
